On May 5, 2012 thousands of people flocked to Huntington Beach to participate in the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's Great Strides walk and fundraiser.
The Quiksilver Foundation helped sponsor the event with t-shirts which helped bring more than 3,000 participants to the beach. The Great Strides walk claims to be the largest charity walk of its kind on the West Coast.
This walk is all in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and their mission to find a cure for CF.
Cystic Fibrosis is the #1 genetic killer of children in the United States. It causes the body to produce a thick, sticky mucous that clogs the lungs and digestive system of children with CF and causes lung infections that eventually lead to lung failure.
The salty ocean air is actually a recognized therapy for CF and doctors have found that kids with CF that SURF are healthier, with fewer hospital stays and lung infections.
Another great testament to the healing powers of surfing!!
