Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation

3 November 2011, Kuta-Bali:  On Tuesday November 1st, Roxy team rider and 2011 ASP Women’s Championship runner up Sally Fitzgibbons from Australia had the honor of handing over a whopping Rp. 94,830,204 (almost $11,000 USD) cheque on behalf of Quiksilver Indonesia to Pak Agung Tresna of the Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation, in support of the on-going effort to preserve the endangered sea turtles of Bali and ensure their survival.

Following the handover of the cheque, Sally along with Quiksilver Indonesia surf team members Dede Suryana, Tipi Jabrik, Devis Ratif, Rio Waida, Sandi Selamet and Andre Julian, members of the Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia support team, media, and some tourists carried the 30 newly hatched turtles down to the beach and sent them out in the Indian Ocean under the watchful and caring eye of Pak Agung Tresna.  “These little guys are so cute,” Sally exclaimed.  “I wish I could take one home with me!  This is such a special experience for me, seeing these tiny turtles being cared for and being protected then released into their natural environment.  I feel so honored see it first hand, and to be a part of it here today,” she added.

The 94 plus million Rupiah donation comes via the sales of a special edition turtle design T-shirt, where 30% of the proceeds are donated to the Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation periodically.

Quiksilver SEA CEO Paul Hutson was on hand to personally participate in the presentation, saying, “We see Bali as the center for surfing in SEA, and it has given us so much, but with the rapid development of tourism here the focus on preserving what makes Bali great is in danger of getting lost, so we want to do all we can to create awareness about keeping the ocean and beaches clean, preserving nature, and educating the public for the future. We’re proud and delighted to be involved and to contribute funds to on-going projects like this…Just look at the faces of these kids and their families as they see these tiny turtles and help send them out into the ocean…priceless isn’t it?”

Quiksilver SEA and Coca-Cola Amatil Indonesia have been supporting the Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation as well as the Bali Lifeguard Department and many other environmental efforts on around the island of Bali for the last several years, as part of their commitment to giving back to the community and helping to preserve the beaches, oceans, and wildlife for all to enjoy in the years to come.
