Lay days may have been boring for some but it was an amazing opportunity to teach kids how to surf. Quiksilver Foundation and the Cathy Freeman Foundation teamed up with Cottage by the Sea who facilitated 10 students from Palm Island to have a once in a lifetime experience of surfing and holiday on the mainland. Quiksilver Foundation funded the Palm Island kids to experience the Gold Coast them park attractions together with a day of surfing experience. The Palm Island kids backgrounds were extraordinary with many of them commenting about the waves in the ocean as they had never seen waves before also at the hotel room laughing and giggling was going on at the pool as they were not sure what is actually was.
As an incentive of good behaviour and participation in school the 10 Palm Island Kids were brought to the mainland. They loved the experience and something that not many Palm Island residence would experience in a lifetime. First up with the surfing experience on the G-Boards, they were so talented with unbelievable foot work and balance skills and picking up how to stand up straight away. All the kids and staff had a ball. Tom Carroll popped in with his stand-up board taking the kids for a cruise on the front the kids flocked to him loving every minute.
